CystoProtek

This is a combination of: glucosamine sulfate, sodium hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate, quercetin, & rutin. It is designed to decrease bladder wall inflammation and help with bladder surface mucosal and glycosaminoglycans (GAG) dysfunction. IC users report it can take several months for it to fully start working. There have been some positive research findings on the ingredients in this combo supplement (see link in further reading section)

Cautions:

The manufacturer only lists cautions for use in children and pregnant/nursing folks. Make sure you follow the instructions they provide on the bottle.

Cysto Renew

CystoRenew works on many of the issues thought to contribute to the development of IC. It works by supporting the health of the bladder glycosaminoglycan layer, increased nitric oxide production, a healthy neuroendocrine system, and normal mast cell production.

Cysto Renew

Cautions:

No adverse effects or warnings were found on the manufacturer’s site. However, if you have any chronic health conditions or are on any other meds, you should check with your health care team before using.

CystaQ

This supplement contains Quercetin, bromelain, papain, Cranberry Fruit, Passion Flower Herb, Valerian Root and Wood Betony Leaf. It is a potent anti-inflammatory that is formulated to focus on the bladder. If you have major frequency problems, this may be something you want to look into.

Best deals online:

CystaQ (not a subscription)

Cautions:

There is a theoretical risk that use of Cysta-Q will interfere with the action of quinolone antibiotics like Cipro, Floxin, Levaquin. So don’t take these antibiotics with Cysta-Q. Also if you are pregnant or nursing, don’t take without getting clearance from your doctor. Also, if you are trying to get pregnant, this isn’t for you due to the level of antioxidants (which can cross the placenta).

Probiotics

Many sufferers of IC also have chronic candida and IBS. Probiotics can help with both. Probiotics are something I used to help with both GI and female issues that tended to exacerbate my IC flares. There is debate amongst which strains are most effective for yeast and constipation issues. It seems that IC patients who choose a probiotic that is geared towards women’s health issues report better outcomes.

Cautions:

Not many. If you are immunecompromised, get the okay from our doctor. Some can interact with other medications so make sure you check on your own specific medications before taking.
